First Bite Is the Deepest is another Nora Snowden best-in-show! I swear, each book of hers I read is better than the one before, wittier, smarter, even more on the button with both pop culture and classic human nature. Which last point seems odd when you consider that the love interest here is a charming good guy of a werewolf, in Snowden's version "evolved" from the archaic killer race into a rather sweet sort of pack animal - sexy as hell, but repelled by killing and happy to play bocci with the pack (here's the ball! you like the ball?) and run and howl as a big extended family under the full moon. This poses a problem to our heroine, writer for a fluffy gossip rag, sniffing out an interview with the former host of an HGTV-style high-end decorating show. And his secret is not the only problem facing the pretty blonde tree-loving scribe. The author tweaks the conventions of her romance genre to a riotous turn, delivering a tale that's touching, red-hot, fast-paced (I read it in just a few hours, couldn't put it down) and very, very satisfying. Binge reading book one and two, loved them.... I bought book three.... so much fun. I laughed at several parts. This Author, Ms. Nora Snowdon, writes very well!! Great fun romantic read!!!!
Totally not what I expected and yet a truly fun story. In the last book Just One Bite we met Robert Colbert former heir to the Colbert pack whose position was nullified when he got drunk, captured and neutered. Robert isn’t totally unhappy about the situation. Now his brother can have all the responsibility and he can continue his player like ways. What he never counted on was meeting Ella. Ella is Roberts total opposite and not easily swayed by his charm, money and good looks. Ride along with their rollercoaster romance and fall in love with these fun and quirky characters. I know I did.
While I didn’t find this story quite as good as the first edition in the series, it was still a fun tale. The meet-cute story of Ella and Robert is definitely unique, and the reason they start spending time together even more so. And it is fun to see more of this unique family as the story unfolds. But since you can see the sparks fly between Ella and Robert right from the get-go, it is no surprise that they end up together. There are some rather spicy scenes between them; but, again, it doesn't quite measure up to the first novel. Of course, we have to traipse through the ubiquitous trials and travails before they can have their happily ever after. Although the biggest supposed shock of the story was something you could totally see coming, if you were paying enough attention. But Robert, of course, is blindsided by Ella’s revelation, and – mostly just due to his stubborn nature – has trouble accepting it. He also tends to jump to conclusions a bit, which causes some related problems that could have been more easily solved. But it does all prove worth it in the end.
You should know first that this book is short, almost novella length so I read this with lightening speed and before I know it, I was done. Because of this, I felt this length was justified as Robert's character was secondary in the first installment of this trilogy. This tells Robert's story and how he meets his mate. Ella. SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!!
I have to confess that I'm not a fan of couger/wolf pairings because this just causes more confusion in keeping characters straight further on down the line if there are descendents and future pairings and trying to keep them straight in your head is a nightmare. So, this book is just okay with me. Other than the stalker after Ella, there isn't really much to recommend in reading this one. As for humor, I didn't find a whole lot of humor in this one. I kept expecting something funny to happen with the wolf/couger thing, but it never happened.
Would I recommend this book? Eh, if only to continue to series and where the characters are in the last and final installment. This one dimmed my enthusiasm for the last one, so we'll see how Anna's story goes, but I'm not holding out any big expectations for it
Another delightful read by Nora Snowdon! Robert might be a neutered wolf thanks to a night of drinking too much and not able to be alpha of the pack but that doesn't stop him from making the best of things. Especially when it comes to the ladys. That is till he meets Ella. Ella is definitely attracted to Robert but they both have secrets. Robert is more a dog person and Ella tends t like cats more. These two stubborn individuals bump heads among other things. Humorous and light hearted with a hint of action. Love that it can be a stand alone or enjoyed in order. I love reading more about previous characters from book one like Lucas and his new wife Rosie, and Robert and Lucas's sister Anna. Looking forward to reading book three! Highly recommend to paranormal romance lovers.
